The National Science and Technology Development Agency (NSTDA) is an autonomous entity with unique functions involving research and development, technology transfer, human resources development and national infrastructure development. NSTDA has a unique role in bridging Thailand\u2019s academic research with industrial sector.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>

\u00a0<\/p>

NSTDA was established by the special National Science and Technology Development Act, 1991, under the Ministry of Science and Technology. Currently, NSTDA is affiliated to the Ministry of Higher Education, Science, Research and Innovation (MHESI) and supervised by the Governing Board, chaired by the Minister of MHESI. One-third of the 3,000 staff are focused on research in targeted specific fields.<\/span><\/p>

\u00a0\u00a0<\/span><\/p>

NSTDA, an umbrella organization, is comprised of five National Research Centers: The National Center of Genetic Engineering and Biotechnology (BIOTEC), the National Metal and Materials Technology Center (MTEC), the National Electronics and Computer Technology Center (NECTEC), the National Nanotechnology Center (NANOTEC) and the National Energy Technology Center (ENTEC).<\/span><\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t

In addition, NSTDA reaches out to other research organizations and universities through joint collaboration, contracted research, and other mechanisms to enrich the innovation ecosystem of the country. NSTDA contributes and makes impacts together with both private sector and local communities, in total more than hundred thousand peoples a year, through selectively proper know-how and technology transfer. In addition to research activities, NSTDA provide major innovative incubator facilities, called the Thailand Science Park, and support three other regional science parks.<\/span><\/p>

\u00a0<\/span><\/p>

NSTDA hugely invested in \u2018National Quality Infrastructure\u2019 through many state-of-the-art scientific instruments and well-trained technicians to provide testing and consultancy services for business companies. The services serve growing demand for high quality product testing in Thai industry. Also, NSTDA established five \u2018National S&T Infrastructure\u2019: National Biobank of Thailand (NBT), National Omics Center (NOC), NSTDA Supercomputer Center (ThaiSC), Technology and Informatics Institute for Sustainability (TIIS) and Thai Microelectronics Center (TMEC), to enhance the utilizing of local and global biodiversity resources and increase the research potential in emerging technologies.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>



<\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t

All of these are necessary for building national competitiveness and sustainability.
